Christmas in port alberni

My cousin bought an sks for his son and he took me and my friend along with his son to shoot some cans. Canadians like guns too... difference is is that we ain't shooting eachother.

I'm curious to know why you think that suggesting the use of hearing protection while shooting firearms is mockable.

Just because you don't feel physical pain or that you think you can "tough out" the loud noise doesn't mean you don't need hearing protection. An SKS is loud enough to cause irreversible hearing damage. Heck, even a .22 is.

Some people think they can "get used" to gunshot noise because after a while it doesn't bother them as much anymore. But the real reason for that is that their hearing acquity was permanently reduced to a point where it doesn't sound as loud to them anymore.

I've worked a job for over 13 years where exposure to gunshot sounds is frequent. I've seen many people who were in repeated situations where they were exposed to gunshot sounds without protection, either by ignorance or necessity. Almost all of them needed hearing aids or had to be spoken loud to to understand what was being said. And most of them were well below their 40's. Hearing loss is insidious and once you finally begin to notice it it's already too late.

But hey, this is only anecdotal so you don't have to trust me. Just google "gunshot noise induced hearing loss" and see the overwhelming amount of science that stands behind what I'm saying.

I shot many many guns and recently in the military they tested my hearing and it was almost perfect besides one sound in my right ear out of 30 sounds, so yeah perfect, what you can get is a ring in your ears wich i have, but that has nothing to do with hearing good or bad.

anecdotal. I have already put forward anecdotes that contradict yours. Look up the science instead.

No offence meant but I just smiled at your comment.  Reminded me of nanny state and all... You're absolutely right about hearing (and eye) protection.

Those surplus ammo are quite nasty. Goes throught a water main valve cover like nothing. Thats 1/2-3/4" of  cast iron.
