Toronto drivers...

someone eventually does something stupid, should engineer prevention into the design once they find a recurring problem. i've seen those automatic  bollards in the UK that go up and down in the street to block traffic, and recognize buses. that sounds like a quick solutin. or have one-way tire puncture strips, those would be super low tech and least expensive.

If they revoke the license of anyone who drives down there, effectively taking a bad driver off the roads, I say it's worth the cost.

You really think revoking a piece of plastic stops people from operating vehicles?

Fully prevents?  No.  Does it make 'em think twice?  Eeeeeeh, maybe.

Not even, OPP has admitted there are many people driving without licenses, unfortunely they're not white people doing it, so to avoid being called racist they do nothing.

Fully prevent, partially prevent, maybe prevent.  All of the above.  Take away their license if you want, if they are caught (key word being IF) they just get another ticket.  But phanto said "effectively" take bad drivers off the road.  I'm sorry but I've seen it with my own eyes.  Taking away a license doesn't stop ANYONE from driving when driving is required to make a living.  In Tennessee you can have your license revoked for unpaid child support.  That law HAS NEVER stopped a man who owed child support from getting behind the wheel.  Let's make that clear.  NEVER.

Does it make 'em think twice?  Not really.  The vast majority of people must drive to work.  So maybe they think twice about speeding or not coming to a full stop at an intersection, but not driving at all?  Sorry, that's just no.

This isn't difficult to grasp Grothesk.  If you had a job that REQUIRED you to drive because there was no other way to get there which would you choose, being fired or breaking a traffic law?  I think the answer is pretty god damn obvious.

If it doesn't deter them, seizing their vehicle and jailing them when they're caught without a license the next time they do something stupid will.

Until they get another vehicle and get out of jail.  And as far as jail goes, it's a moving violation so maybe a weekend at worst.  Don't tell me you want to toss them jail for a year for driving down a god damn tunnel.

By that point those who will keep trying to drive a vehicle without a license after all that happened will be a tiny proportion of those who originally had their license revoked. For the rest, repeat offenders should have heavier sentences. I believe this is the most reasonable way to handle it.

LOL draged the car out on chains. This is a write off.

Do trams and cars share the road? If not a simple curbstone solution would get rid of the problem.
