Played a bit at friends house. Seriously seems like 90% of the effort put into the game was put into the water effects....which to be honest is fucking insane. Rest of the game. Meh. Plusar Lost Colony is better.

I'm so glad that its price tag deterred me from buying the game right away at release. I saw the beta test videos and it didn't look like it had the content to justify such a price tag and I was right. The fact that it was only available in the Microsoft store didn't help either.
Hopefully in a few months they'll reduce the price and increase the content enough to make it worth the money. I really hope they'll add enough features to bring it up to what I originally thought it was going to be because it would then be an awesome game.
But I'm not holding my breath. They've shot themselves in the foot by fucking up the release and bringing the game up to expectations would be a lot of work and money. Fixing the game now would be a bad business decision. They're most likely to give up on it and put it in the $5 bargain bin within a year.

From the video: "I was standing there like, wow, this is way more boring than being a pirate and sailing around with a bunch of other people should be."
From the song: "I spent the next two years or more just staying at the [ship's] wall. We went to sea to see the world...what do you think we saw?"

Played this game for free using an xbox pass on the windows store. Ignoring the intiial server issues which are typical of such games I was pretty happy with it. The game is not based so much on what you have to do in the game, but what you can do with the freedom you are allowed. I will say though its probably pretty boring if you aren't with your friends and just playing with randoms who don't use voice chat, I have so far not had to do that but I respect anyone who dislikes it due to that reason. But if you imagine four friends on a galleon working together to optimise the sailing of the ship whilst repairing and working out how to fuck over another ship trying to steal your treasure, sink your ship and kill you is pretty thrilling. Incorporating strategy, teamwork, and communication in a simple game not fraught with loot boxes or a screen filled with random numbers or health bars is honestly pretty refreshing.
Example, every couple of hours there are these boss events where a skeleton stronghold has a giant flashing skull over it. Everyone on the map sees this and immediately starts heading to it. In this event you have to kill like 10 waves of skeletons of varying types then kill the boss, doing so grants you a key to the most valuable treasure in the game. So you have to fulfil that objective whilst also trying to fend off every other motherfucker on the server. In short Chaos. I couldn't begin to describe all of the moments I've had in this game but to summise it me and my crew have had to find numerous ways to try and deal with this problem and sometimes we failed, but sometimes we managed to just outlast our opponents till they lost the will to fight or other times simply by being better skilled or sneakier fucks.
So before you consider this game empty I'd say perhaps try the 2 week pass with 3 other friends and give the game a serious go and you'll probably find it a rewarding experience in terms of the parameters i've defined which pertain to teamplay/strategy etc.
