Beware the Humorless Movement

Pretty good talk, but I kind of hate it when a speaker conflates something being done or not being done in the present with catastrophic results in the future...when he's talking about education:

"The university system is where those who run civilization figure out how to think and if we take the mechanisms whereby we train people how to think critically and carefully, and how to discover things that are true that they don't expect or intuit, then civilization is going to lose its ability to navigate and I must say that I find that prospect absolutely frightening."

I have a feeling he's putting that university pussy on a pedestal.  Fine talk, 3/5 from me.

There's a great quote by Vonnegut that goes something like "true fear is waking up one morning to realize that your high school class is running the country."

Almost everybody in power comes through the university system. It's a required bottleneck. The people who want power and change are using this bottleneck as a mechanism to enforce social change 5-10 years down the line.

Read "State and Revolution" by Lenin. The SJWs have co-opted higher education to their own ends. It's worrying to me. 5/5 for me.

What Pizzaboi said - it's a slow-cook operation. I thought the people who were voicing concerns about it in the mid-90s were being a bit alarmist - they'll grow out of it and join the real world.

Fuck. I didn't understand it then the way I understand it now.

But, to your point, Bret would admit himself I think that his perception has been influenced by the trauma he was subjected to.

One of the biggest tragedies of this "social justice" culture is the theft of the term "social justice". It used to mean something quite different. The new definition seems like lazy people crying about 1st world problems.
