Womp Womp: Rachel Maddow Cries Live on Air

Yeah the kids are innocent victims but they're being fed & looked after. A few months away from their custodians isn't gonna kill them.

It's a trending topic right now because of the blanket media coverage.

The law has been in place since 2002, why is so outrageous all of a sudden?

Trump trying to make the Dems look like the bad guys, and using children to do so. Dems called his bluff and did exactly what this guy said he should do. Seems like a Dem win to me.

To answer your quesiton - it's because the law is being enforced now. Sometimes an underlying ethic is supposed to supercede the law - that's a Christian concept as well as a concept held by many other religions today. Maddow isn't thinking that way here - she's virtue-signaling and milking the drama for ratings. But it's not necessarily an invalid position - the law should be changed tout suite, obviously. It's ugly. The same effect can be achieved without having to separate families.

It's phoney outrage that's being used as a political weapon. Religion has no place in the discussion. I agree that ratings are also a motivation.

Any deterrance against asylum seekers is ugly. Detention centers & illegal immigration are not a pretty scene. The responsibility lies with the parents who are trying to exploit the situation to migrate without going through the proper channels.

Why should foreigners who are smuggling people across the border be treated better than citizens who break the law & go to prison?

I'm not giving the parents any slack, and the guy's point about "fake parents" is a good one - I'm just saying that people on both sides are acknowledging that there's probably a better way to do this. Most people who break the law don't go to prison - these people aren't going to prison. They're going home, very slowly and onerously and probably inefficiently to boot. My guess is there's a better way to do it, so they should explore that and then adjust the procedures accordingly. As it stands now yes they have to follow the procedures they have - this is what comes of selective enforcement of laws. Laws should either be fixed, repealed or enforced. Fuzzy shit in between breeds corruption.

Illegal entry when you're caught for the first time is a federal misdemeanor, prosecutable with a fine & up to 6 months in prison. I had a long chat with someone on Twitter last night & after about an hour it we realised that I'm in NZ & she's in Aussie haha. Ultimately we met in the middle that separating the kids is not ethical. The rest is just fluff.

I'm really cold towards refugees but even moreso towards governments etc who screw over their country which leads them to seek a better life elsewhere. There is a minority of refugees who do the right thing & have legitemate cause to seek asylum but the system gets abused & most are economic migrants. Hurling kids across the border is a pretty cynical move. I'm glad Trump caved on the issue & ended the family separation though. Even from an amoral perspective, the kids psychology is less traumatized if they stay together & ultimately that benefits everyone.

If the US really wants to stem the flow of refugees it should aim towards stabalising the region to its South instead of exploiting it.
