Humans1: Robots are winning the war we started against them, what do we do?

Human2: They're solar powered aren't they?

Human1: Yeah.

Human2: Then it's simple. We blot out the sun. They power down, we win!

Human1: So your idea for us to win is to plot the sun from our planet. Thus killing just about every living thing on the surface of earth and therefore making the surface unliveable.

Human2: Well....yeah.

Human1: BRILLIANT! Let's put this plan into action right now!

Human2: I know right. What could go wrong?

Somthing tells me that this in depth conversation never took place in the 'Matrix' universe

Humanity knew this, and that is exactly what happened. It still fulfills the mammalian imperative. Survive, even if it's just a short while longer than the threat.

They didn't scorch the sky at the beginning of the war, it was when they were decisively losing and there were no other apparent options. Also the humans underestimated their own nanite technology. They intended just to black out zero one, and the areas under it's occupation. However, the nanites didn't stop replicating and eventually shrouded the Earth.

If the Wachowski's ever revisited this franchise I would love to see a new trilogy based on the Second Renaissance.

Also in part2 @ 2:05 Looks like Pinker turned to God once the machines come.
