"There are no English speaking people here, So, we like it."

Taking a quote out of context and putting it as the title is extremely misleading.

It is a community of retired foreigners come in your area for half of every year to escape harsh winters. They are the equivalent of tourists. They bring zero crime, create jobs while taking none of them and inject their pension money into the local economy. They are in contained communities and have zero risk of "taking over" the local society like some people fear migrants might. They are only here to enjoy the sun and spend their pension until they die of old age.

If you watch the video you will also realize that they make efforts to learn the local language and if anything is taking over right now it is the luxury condo projects that are displacing the people of lesser income out of the area.

oh fuck off, you're out of context. hitler said kill the jews. is that out of context or do you need the whole thing?

i put it up, i watched it.  these are 65+ year old people from a bilingual country that haven't learned the basics of english, they hail from a province where they have voted people into the provincial office that have instituted language laws that favor one of the primary languages over the other. 6 months of the year, they stay at a french trailer park. thats called making an effort not to learn the language.

" these are 65+ year old people from a bilingual country that haven't learned the basics of english, "

A far greater proportion of English speaking people in that bilingual country have never bothered learning the basics of French either. And I ain't blaming them for this since most of them will have no use in learning it in their lives, just like the people from the video never needed to learn English until they decided to live half of the year in Florida. And at 15:30 you would see that they are working at remedying that. Which BTW is far more imposing task at their age.

"they hail from a province where they have voted people into the provincial office that have instituted language laws that favor one of the primary languages over the other "

If you knew the sociopolitical context in which these laws had been passed you would have understood that it was necessary at the time to prevent a complete English outsider takeover of the province's elite and further impoverishment and exploitation of its population that was happening back then. Now I understand that these laws are in need for modernization with today's context but I fail to see how this law makes these people from the video reprehensible in any way other than trying to commit an association fallacy.

"6 months of the year, they stay at a french trailer park. thats called making an effort not to learn the language"

They have explained very well in the video why they do this. This tendency to tend to stay around people who speak the same language as you is common to all cultures. It is human nature to prefer environments where they can have more relaxed social interactions. You see stuff like this happen in almost every tourist ressort. And once again, 15:30 simply proves you wrong about not caring about learning the language.

"A far greater proportion of English speaking." 56% of the population consider english as there mother tongue while 20% consider it french. shit even immigrants learn english. the ones that migrant to any porvince other than quebec learn english. migrants into quebec, 50% of them report that can conduct a convo in both english and french. you want to talk 15:30. fine, its called production. they've been there how many years? they just happen to have a class on that day of shooting? and they are covering the alphabet? you think they explain the alphabet on the first day or like weeks into learning the language? they trying? really?

"If you knew the sociopolitical context in which these..." the shit hasn't stopped. whats the sociopolitical context behind bill 14? this was from 5 years ago

this pic leaves out the part where they wanted to remove the canadian flag from municipal buildings. keep in mind that these people didnt call themselves canadian, they called themselves quebecois. they haven't even assimilated into canadian society and they were born there

It only makes sense for immigrants who move to an English part of the country to learn English just like those who move to a French speaking portion learn French. The proportions of migrants in Quebec who can speak both French and English is very similar to that of the originally French speaking Quebecers so your affirmation that migrants "care more about learning English" is simply false.

May I also point out that the portion of migrants who are in an English speaking area definitely do not have an as strong tendency to learn the second official language, just like it is for the people in the country whose first language is English.

You can't blame French speaking Canadians for not all being bilingual in both official languages when the English side is far worse at it.

"the shit hasn't stopped. whats the sociopolitical context behind bill 14? this was from 5 years ago"

Association fallacy once again. That was an extremely unpopular bill and it has died. The ass-backward party that was pushing for it has been humiliatingly defeated in the following elections only a few months later. That just shows you that most of Quebec's population isn't what you think they are.

I've lived all over the country for over three decades, including Quebec and all I can say is that in either side most people don't give a shit about language differences in the country. The vocal minorities like you who try to find excuses to blame the other side are just as bad as the defeated political party that tried to pass Bill-14.

36% of quebecois can speak english, 50% of migrants in quebec can(that include people coming from french colonies). overall 94% of the province can speak french while only 60% of the provinces pop is "ethincally canadian". if you think about that, migrants that choose to go to quebec have no reason to learn english, but they do. almost 3 million quebecers that say no to english. the province also lost over 600k pop to the other provinces over the course of the last 45 years, its loosing 7k people a year.

bill 14. that was put forth by an elected party. who elected the parti quebecois? probably older people that self identify as quebecois in a foreign country rather than canadian.

IDK where you've got that 36% number. I can't even find that anywhwere. The 2016 census shows that Quebecois who are bilingual in both official languages is at 44.5%. The same cannot be said for the rest of Canadians for less than 10%, which really should make you think twice before pointing fingers about making efforts to learn the second official language even if you have no need to (I expand on that further down).

This 44.5% is highly comparable to the 50% for migrants. The 5.5% difference can be explained by the fact that a large proportion of migrants settle in the increasingly English speaking city of Montreal which would produce a need to learn the language.

With the reality of the Internet and globalization bilingualism will naturally continue to grow in the province and it is perfectly fine as there will be a growing need for it and a way to practice it on a daily basis. But if you go in the homes of people where this isn't a reality (which is pretty much anywhere in the province outside of Montreal unless you do busniess outside of the province) and tell them to learn your language because you think it is lazy for them not to you will be told to go fuck your hat (or to "manger de la marde"). And understandably so. You have absolutely no right to criticize them for not learning a language they currently don't need to learn when 90% of the English speaking Canadians outside of the province to the exact same thing.

As for the party that pushed for Bill 14 if you once again miss the context. The Parti Quebecois was riding on the coat tails of a general animosity towards the Liberal party in the 2012. They had also watered down their discourse to attract votes from the people who wanted to vote against the Liberal party which allowed them to claw an extremely tight minority government with only less than 32% of the popular vote, only 0.75% over the Liberal party. Once in "power" they've gradually shed their moderate face until they got kicked out of office less than two years after the elections. They returned to their usual "full retard" mode with the separatist movement during the resulting 2014 elections which directly resulted in a complete collapse of their voting base. They've doubled down on this in the 2018 elections which furthered their collapse, bringing them to the third rank. This once again proves my point and disproves yours.

And the funny and sad thing in all this is that you are justifying all of your animosity towards Quebecers by basing yourself on the intolerant minority of separatists among them without knowing that they themselves are justifying their own opinions based the intolerant minority on the Canadian side like you.
