The Morelian matador Hilda Tenorio was seriously wounded by a bull.
She survived, the bull probably didn't.

Such a horrible sport. I always thought it was cool until I actually watched a full one, albeit in Spain via TV. But it's just brutual. First they bring out this horse with blinders on and wearing a thick cloak to prevent it from being stabbed. The bull runs up and bashes the horse who has no idea what's coming. A good rider will turn the horse at the right time so the bull doesn't hurt it too much. But horses can be killed. Meanwhile the rider tries to stab it a few times.
Then some junior bull fighters come out and try to stab the bull some more. This is what all the colored ribbons you see hanging off the back of it's neck are. They have to be careful not to stab it in the spine as that would kill it instantly and thats the matadors job.
Then the matadaor comes out and plays with the bull. I think he might stab it a few times, I don't recall.
By now the bull is exhausted and has been running around with a bunch of blades in it's neck.
And when the bull is finally done, the matador will jab a final sword right into it's spine, 'humanely' killing it instantly.
So basically, the bull is tortured for a while, with no chance to win until it is basically dead anyway then finally killed.
It's an old cultural activity that has probably had it's time in modern society.

The outcome for the bull is always the same.
The bull is already weakened (bled) before he even enters the arena, then they stab him from horseback, then they stick small spears with barbed hooks (so they don't fall out) into his back to increase bleeding and further weaken the animal and then they intend to do a "clean" kill by stabbing a sword deep into his back. More often than not the latter fails even after various attempts. So they take out another tool to finally kill him.
