Still, let's put that into perspective:
A person with no priors could face 40 years in prison and a $1m fine for a theft of 88k and some fraud? Does that hve the right ring to it?
How is he going to pay the fine after spending this kind of time in prison?

Of course you would not understand this. Sentences should be so that people can be rehabilitated. This guy will never have a chance for that. A sentence like this is actually creating crime, not stopping it.
