Chinese gov announced an official lockdown of Wuhan at 10am, Jan 23rd. Residents have all been ordered to wear masks when entering public spaces. Wuhan is home to 12 million people (larger than NYC or London), the capital of Hubei Province & a transport hub. Chinese New Year/Spring Festival is on Jan 25th & is the largest migration of the year - 3 billion trips were estimated over the holiday period this year before the outbreak.
Among the 17 who've died so far from the Wuhan coronavirus, the youngest was 48 while the eldest was 89 and most of them had a history of chronic diseases. [link]
- 554 cases confirmed in China, including 444 in Hubei Province
- 6 confirmed overseas (Japan: 1, Thailand: 3, South Korea: 1, US: 1)
As of 22 Jan, a total of 2,556 close contacts had been placed under medical observation, with 863 people released. [link]
Some further steps taken:
-Regions like Beijing, Chongqing launched a preventive mechanism
-Regions including Hubei banned live poultry and wildlife trade
-Wuhan shut down tourism venues, parks and zoo, cancelled public gatherings
-Macao SAR cancelled Spring Festival activities
