It's all an elaborate ruse to make the numbers seem legit. I can't prove it, it's just an assumption. /s

What second wave?
There were 32 new cases yesterday, 30 of which were people travelling in from overseas & just 2 from within China. They have tracking apps & all kinds of screening everywhere you go. So far there's been no 2nd wave & if there is one it'll be easily isolated.

That's brutal. So I guess the only reason everyone stayed inside was because they were forced too not because they knew better. Because people who knew better would leave that crowd.

That video is from yesterday or 2 days ago, just after the lockdown was lifted.

Those aren't even reasons people stayed inside, they're screening & tracing measures.
People stayed inside without too much fuss because they were convinced it was for the greater good. They were in a "people's war" with the virus since late January when Xi announced it & there's very high trust in the govt there so they all came together & fought it. Fighting it meant following the advice, volunteering on the frontlines, donating a shitload of stuff to help out, incl their time & in some case their lives. It was an amazing thing they did but unfortunately most of us will never hear about it or understand it.
I've no idea why people are squishing their way into that tourist spot. Too many people there & they don't wanna waste their travel time by leaving empty-handed I guess.
I don't think they still are as paranoid about the virus any more because of so few domestic cases these days. Like less than 20 per day for about the past 2 weeks & about 1,000 active infections in the whole country. Most of the new cases are coming in from overseas & every person coming in goes into quarantine for 2 weeks & gets tested every 2 days......unless of course the numbers are a big lie & CCP's playing itself by putting everyone at risk lol.

"were convinced it was for the greater good" - but this is essentionally the same arguement for most countries to have people self quarantine, even with low trust in the government. :)
Anyway, none of this matters unless we understand why they rushed to this tourist spot. Maybe they all just missed the regular life of being packed densely with other people and after 6 weeks of isolation went full mosh bit to get their fix.

maybe a combo of things ... the whole workforce isn't yet back @ work and the stay-at-home orders are just now being eased. They had to skip the biggest holiday of the year in CNY & so are itching to get in some leisure time before going back to work. Just a guess. The place is in a city about 6 hours drive from Wuhan so it's not directly related to the lifting of the lockdown there.

Dinmin, I don't read your comments very often because you usually just spew CCP dogma but that was beautiful. It read like a Mao-era poster during the Great Famine circa 1960. The mention of "The people's war", lauding the Chinese government, championing the people, and total belief in the numbers put forth by your leaders is not to be laughed at. Ruining it all with the last sentence is grounds for a re-education summer camp though.

Xi is much more subdued. You might get a wave from him while you're on the street..
But Xi does not promote a cult of personality of himself by having his face posted everywhere in the way that Mao did.
