when you simp for grifters like the above or believe shit the mainstream press says (which often amounts to war propaganda), sure.
have you ever been there or gotten to know chinese people in your country?
how much do you even know about the place, what do you know about their history, culture or current state of affairs that hasn't been fed to you with anti-commie/yellow peril agenda?
I'm gonna take a guess: sweet fuck all.

I know Chinese like that too but they're a minority of the Chinese people.
Does your neighbour have any relatives in mainland China that he keeps in contact with?
Your old friend maybe descendent of the landlord class that got rekt in the commie revolution, quite a few actually. One of which holds a grudge, mainly I think because his grandfather was a high ranking KMT military guy & is basically my friend's mentor. He lives comfortably in US now with some family in mainland & Taiwan. This is normal stuff, like republican families hating on democrats or possibly like fashy rednecks complaining that blacks can vote in the US & how it's all turning to shit. It doesn't really speak to the current reality of China where they've lifted hundreds of millions from poverty, have 70% of the world's high speed trains, all laid in about 15 years, Over 90% are satisfied with the govt there. It's easy to see why when you consider how far they've come in the past few decades. They also haven't gone to war in over 30 years. I could go on but it's whatever, you sound like you've only heard people say negative shit about the place. I'm not gonna try to convince you otherwise & I know it's not easy to get decent info about the place. It's either all bad or all good depending on the media you're looking at. Neither is accurate. I gotta say though that Western media incl alt media like the stuff like the above video is dopey shit & does more to misinform than it does to inform.

I don't use Baidu unless in China (Baidu Maps) or to translate Chinese stuff to English (it's much more accurate than Google or Yandex)
I've been watching the show stokkebye uploaded. Onto episode 5 now. That could explain the late reply.
What makes you think they'd be put into re-education camps? Are they terrorists?
I ask if he has family in mainland China because this is one way you can get more accurate info about the place - getting in contact with people who are there, even if it's 2nd hand info, it's still better to hear from people who know what it's like on the ground.
If you listen only to the media & from people who left on bad terms it's like listening to the North Korean version of what USA is like without having any idea what Americans themselves have to say.... or some odd people who defect to NK from capitalist society & still hold a grudge.

And thats why I fight the mandates and govt bs in regards to the Chinavirus. Slippery Slope!
A proposed bill by the New York state legislature would allow the government to forcibly detain anyone without trial if they’re deemed a public health threat.
The bill, A.416, is among a host of Covid restriction and vaccine mandate bills set to be voted on during the next legislative session starting on January 5th.
According to the bill’s text, A.416 would “allow the governor or the appropriate health official to order the removal and detention of any person afflicted with a communicable disease in the event that there is a state of health emergency declared by the governor in relation to such disease.”
My local sheriff is signing agreements with the schools that allow them to "investigate" kids. Its all being kept secret, that was till he slipped up and admitted it in an interview.
I know, but they want it. I cant post that on my local news media site, comment gets deleted, censored. Not much different than China's censorship. Day by day we slip a little closer!

Yes, I agree, there a lot more similarities. The take over of our media is a big one. No society can withstand that. Independants are our last hope, but with a swipe of a few keystrokes they could be gone too. Im starting to wonder if it might just be better to unplug. "The revolution wont be televised" could be updated to it wont be on the internet.

Overall I'd say China & US both do a lot of censorship & narrative control but how it's done & what the objectives are differ a lot.
I was pointing out Assange because I think his case is different to how the Chinese do - much more extreme to go after a foreign national in a 3rd country just to silence him. PRC don't go after foreign nationals like that. They do nope people domestically who fuck around in a few ways, it's not really similar to how Western propaganda/censorship works though. This PDF explains how they do censorship, what their intentions are etc. One of the main problems there is that the mass filtering of dissidence/social disruption or whatever is outsourced to private companies who don't wanna get in trouble & so can be too aggressive in in what they take down. It's a common complaint.
I've seen some similarities with political censorship creep in on Western big tech these past few years, filtering out things that are problematic for Democrats on Twitter eg. Hunter's laptop. This is fairly new to be protecting a political party like that by abusing big tech - a party that wasn't even in power at the time!

they do have global reach though, they get people sent back to China via extradition or other (above board) means, although only have extradition treaties with a handful of countries. They don't go after foreign nationals though. The 2015 Bangkok bombing was at least partly inspired by Thailand helping China stop the ratline of Uyghur jihadis flowing over to Turkey/Syria. Around 100 of them were sent back to China by the Thai authorities & the local terries got pissed & went boom.
Arab countries also reportedly send Uyghurs back to China on request. It's not because they do journalism the PRC govt doesn't like though. They go to Turkey/Syria to train as terrorists with the aim of returning to China to become insurgents there.
I suppose the case of the Causeway booksellers is similar but they're still Chinese nationals.
The revolution won't be televised but the culling and final battle will be.

Listening to this guy contrast what was important to him in terms of his native home town vs. his China home town at the opening was like listening to everything that's wrong with the soul of western secular urbanites. Fucking gross man - oh you went back to your native home town and couldn't have oreos and cheesies delivered to your door at 2 am? Fuck, no, that's oppression man! You see what became established as important to this guy? And what do you think he'd be willing to give up to maintain this comfort and convenience that's so important to him - more important than his native home town with it's backwards "traditions"? He woke up, but how many do you think are like him? Not too many I think. I hope I'm wrong.
It's a little too late for those spoiled on turkish delight to start asking questions now - just a bit tardy.
