You can build quickly when throwing a lot of resources at it and not caring about quality of the build. Simple.
(Site Administrator)
that's a cope
firstly, "throw a lot of resources at it" is easier said than done. Can your government/system pull off these kind of mega-engineering projects or nah?
those hospitals they threw up in a week had everything required for intensive care patients (unlike the UK facilities they're compared to in the video), even 5G, and they tore them down once they didn't need them a few months later. The only problem I heard they had was a busted water pipe during the build which was fixed within 24 hours.
they have the most advanced high speed train tech in the world & 60% of the world's HSR tracks are in China, nearly all laid in the past 14 years with plenty more to come. As far as "throw a lot of resources at it" they have the 2nd lowest cost per km for building HSR in the world, 2nd only to India where they have to run their Japanese-built trains at half speed because their tracks are shit.
Shanghai was just given the world's smartest city award for 2022 & 30 years ago wasn't modern at all.

There were reports on these hospitals and their appauling build quality, they were pretty much falling apart.
Their high speed trains is tech bought in from europe (at least the power supply and overhead line systems). When I was working at ABB Daimler Benz Transportation (later aquired by Balfour Beatty Rail) back in the 90ies they started producing high speed overhead line parts under license. Their parts were pretty shit, however they have the resources to throw a lot of maintenance staff and machines in the game so they replace them more often.

> There were reports on these hospitals and their appauling build quality
the video is about how fast they can build. If you know of any problems that occurred due to substandard build quality let's hear it.
> Their high speed trains is tech bought in from europe... back in the 90ies...
Originally trains were invented by the Brits so they should take credit for anything train-related if you're gonna use that logic.

"Originally trains were invented by the Brits so they should take credit for anything train-related if you're gonna use that logic."
WOW, does an excuse for not knowing what one is talking about get any lamer? I guess not.
(Site Administrator)
you're the one who doesn't know what he's talking about & your attempts to dismiss their achievments in rail tech is what's lame
China's HSR rollout started around 2008 & it's been nothing short of amazing what they've done, with over 60% of the world's high speed train tracks & growing, & despite how it hurts your feefees they have the most advanced tech...... you're here saying "they got some train tech from Germany in the 1990s so it doesn't count"
pathetic.
(Old Spike)
I don't say it doesn't count, I am saying they have quality issues and throw resources at it. You dismiss that baecause you are biased on this topic. Simple as that.
(Site Administrator)
Maybe I am biased in opinions but that's beside the point, I simply disagree with the points your making.
The "throw resources at it" argument comes off as an attempt to dismiss what they're doing. I don't get why you'd say that otherwise. All projects require resources. If your argument is that their techniques are resource-heavy then you'll have to explain why they consistently out-bid others for infrastructure contracts around the world. The $$ cost of projects they build isn't exactly high so what resources you're even talking about remains a mystery & the "throw" part makes it sound sloppy whereas to build large projects quickly requires precision, the opposite of what you're implying.
I don't know of any quality issues with those hospitals & you've not even attempted to explain what you've seen in "reports". We can deal with the weird anecdotes you brought up about their train tech later but having been on Japan & China's high speed trains I can tell you China's ones are far smoother & also faster, this is expected because they're newer but it also speaks to the track *quality*.
I'll ask again, if there were problems arising from the quality of the building of those hospitals that you know of then let's here it?
(Old Spike)
The post of the hospitals was on here if I remember correctly, during your time "off". I'll post it if I find it, don't hold your breath, though, china is not known for liking their dirty wash displayed in the open so evidence will be few and far between, this is aided by isolation of course.
(Site Administrator)
Okay but I don't have my hopes up that you've got anything credible to share, likely it's just spin with no substance & you fell for it. We'll see.
Here's some analysis on the Leishenshan Hospital written by the US National Library of Medicine in Nov 2020. It doesn't mention any probrems at all, let alone ones relating to the rapid construction.
Nor does the wikpedia entry for it.
You may have seen this entry on here - yeah there was a busted pipe during the construction but it was sorted pretty quick & there were no problems after it started being used afaik. Also the PLA was running it and only a couple of visiters with cameras were allowed in, it was for severely ill people with extremely strict "fuck off we're busy" operational style, so I doubt anything would become public even if there was a problem. That's not the same thing as there being reason to believe there was problems that were covered up though.

Hey danmanjones,
any update from CCP on the covid stats?
Last time I heard the CCP had suffed out covid back in 2020.
Thier exempliary model of how to contain and eradicate a virus that started in Wuhan, suspciously close to a wet market that secalised in not being the source of the virus.
I guess you think they are telling the truth?
(Site Administrator)
> any update from CCP on the covid stats?
"CCP" doesn't publish stats, they're a political party in the PRC government.
If you want PRC's stats, best I can do is sourced from John Hopkins University here
>I guess you think they are telling the truth?
you'll have to be more specific.
- Who is "they"?
- What are they saying that you doubt (and why)?
btw, why are you asking about the pandemic on this thread?
(Old Spike)
They come down almost as quickly as they go up, too!

China sucks

Yeah they build vacuum cleaners fast too :p

I drove by one of the "Iron Monster' In Montreal , Quebec. Pretty amazing machinery.
(Short Spike)
Wow that amazing!
Now all they need to do is take the boot off the neck of their people.
USA proved that massive projects could be achieved rapidly back when they didnt give a damn about the environment or workers rights and conditions. Look at what was done when the USA went to a war footing in WW2 around ship, aircraft and tank building.
It is possible to not be a totalitarian regime and achieve outstanding results.
(Site Administrator)
China pours more concrete in 2 years than the US did during the entire 20th Century, they're not in the same league. They do gaf about the environment these days & are still building like it's a city-building simulater with cheats enabled. Their air quality's improved massively this past decade, they're leading in greenification of deserts & installing more green energy than anyone else by far.
your preference on their style of government is redundant since you don't live there but if you think they should adopt US or Australia's system of governance go ahead & say so, I could do with a laugh.
(Short Spike)
If you love CCP so much why dont you move to China? Seriously, you actualy should.
(Site Administrator)
can't, pandemic. Bring too lazy to study the language doesn't help either. I just take an interest in China, pretty sure I can do that from anywhere in the world, even from within "the free world".
(Old Spike)
^ Behold a liar. He "just takes an interest in China."
