In the developed world we have personal id cards so dumb shit like this doesn't happen. Looking at the fotos I think a case could be made that a little plastic surgery would be tha cause for the difference.
In any case girl's gonna be rich.

she did. the cops didn't look at any of it. not her birthdate, not her social security number, they had the other person's fingerprints and didn't compare them. even their eye colour is different. a week and a half later someone finally did check and realize they had the wrong person, and they still kept her in jail for another 3 days.
also the other girl was wanted for property damage, not really something you'd get extensive surgery for.

yes it is alleged that this happend more or less as you wrote, if it turns out to be she will be rich. Just look at her, she'll be fine with that. Plenty beauty operations in it for her.
And again I am gobsmacked at the incompetence of US police.

In the developed world.... no id card as of yet. I had one as a kid... that was when the postal service and the goverment was one.
I get it though, still personal ID's are fucking abused as fuck....
Id's are fucking crazy hard to make.... NOW! It's a whole to do, so we settled on passports. Worked on it for 20 years.... i know it's weird, but everytime we work on ID cards we come short. Computer Overseer, sorry bad translation ... they nix it, due to potential abuse." Datatilsynet" direcly translated: Data Overwatch is having serious problems with a ID card.

I had an ID card from 16 onwards, they were pretty safe then and are even safer now. When I came to live in the UK in the 90ies I was gobsmacked by the mdieval practices of "proof of address" by utility bills and whatnot and the necessity of a "letter of recommendation" from my employer so I could open a bank account.
If the government wants to check on you they will ID or no ID, there is literally no reason not to havew one unless you think you have to hide something.

Goverments are afraid you'll lose it and it gets sold. I know people would sell the old paper passports for up tp 5000£. People where "losing" passports left and right over here so much so they had to put a limit on how many you can lose, trying to find the news story, but it's a 5 yers old ish.
the new ones we got made that go away afaik.

Have a friend who has the same name as some US fugitive and would always get pulled aside when flying through the states. He eventually had to get some document from the White House or something like that saying he was approved to fly and he would have to carry it with him at all times.
