Really?.. I dunno. I saw an article that was describing how the whole dynamic between Pattison's Batman and this Joker is that the latter has an unhealthy fascination with him. Batman needs his input, and goes to Arkham knowing that he'll only feed Joker's unhealthy belief that they have a relationship. Creepy.

But I don't like the design. The character is supposed to be fascinating and this version is.. well, kinda hard to look at. Can't imagine 2-3hrs of that.

Well to be a bit more specific.

He asks boring questions, and makes boring analysis.

The dialogue definitely reeks of millenial language. Which has lost about 60% of literacy compared to previous generations of average eloquence.

I'm not blaming the actor or designer for this one. Mostly the writer.

To add a parcel of fairness. This is not an easy character to craft. Most attempts fail.

After giving it a second watch with my room mate and having a bit of discussion and thought this what we have come up with in terms of this one.

What the dialogue needs is more complex interplay and more subtelty. The relationship between the characters is what requires more thought before they hit the drawing board.

I'm going to focus more on the Joker than Batman for this analysis.

The Joker is a man with a plan. That comes first and foremost. His attacks, his messages to the world through his actions, even his arrests, demises, and imprisonments "Are all part of the plan" every single time.

Really in this scene the Joker just won the lottery. He was already figureing out his escape and resurgence. If he hasn't alreaddy figured it out exactly and was simply waiting for certain events to transpire before the timing was perfect. Perhaps even waiting on Batmans own journy and development before he reach optimal relevence in Batmans story once again.

Batman showing up for a FAVOR was just the icing on the cake for him.

THAT is the required frame that this scene should have kept front and center from the moment of inception and to it's conclusion. The writers grasped at this, but failed to seize it and give it life.

Internally, the Joker loves Batman very much. He needs him. Batman is what completes him. Externally he hides this at all costs, and must constantly not only maintain absolute control of the dynamic, but must craft this control meticulously to appear organic and effortless. This is just as important . The neccessary dessert to the main course of his plans. On second thought, perhaps he doesn't hide this need at all costs, he is honest about his needs when it best suits his plans. That I think is closer to his intent.

If the creators want to give this potential Joker a real shot, and feel that they have a base to work with. Which I believe  does have potential, This interplay is very important.

And to touch on Batman. It's better that he says nothing at all and simply observes, than he open his mouth carelessly. That is the millenial language in which I speak of. Too much carelessness, and missed opportunity.

They probably agreed with you and realized the scene above didn't do the Joker justice. Maybe that's why they cut it out, giving us the small tease we got in the theatrical release instead. This gives them more room to develop him correctly in the sequel.

I think so too.

Personally I have felt for a long time that there are a few other villains that haven't had a chance yet.

Particularly Clay Face and Rupert Thorne.

Nolan also made a big mistake killing Two Face too quickly.
