First Boxing Match

First 100% Sparring Session

Amateur exhibition match. Wore 16 oz pillows intead of industry-standard 10 oz for my weight class. We went 100%.

I'm blue headgear, grey shirt, white gloves. My opponent is Mikey, bit smaller, a lot younger, faster, and 3+ years of experience on me plus an amateur record.

I score it 29-27 in my favor. I faded in the last round. The kid recovered remarkably after the first knockdown, pinged me a couple of times with his swarm. I spent half the match trying to counter him and walk him down.

Good job controlling the space and keeping form.

I can tell you put in some decent road work, you didn't seem too gassed.

Thanks man. I could still use a ton of work, especially with the head movement and slipping punches. But I figured since I got reach on him, to stand tall and just block the punches.

I think I my cardio did better because I cut down on smoking LoL. Always could use more cardio though!

You live in San Jose right? Where is this? I've always wanted to learn boxing.

I moved back to Long Beach, this is with DG Boxing. If you're in SJ, you can try AKA. They're pricey, but it's an elite-level MMA gym with a full roster of UFC Champions.

You can also try Santa Cruz boxing, they do deals every New Years. It's technically in Scotts Valley, but they're not bad. Any gym that has at least one pro and a handful or amateurs will get you started in the right direction.
