Through the Gates of Hell

I remember reading a story recently about some town where there was a situation like this. Forest fires were everywhere and cutting all the exits out of town. Basically a bunch of people took to the road and tried and to drive through and got caught by the fire and ESPECIALLY the smoke. After a few cars got stuck it became impossible to even move through said road. Several people died and the one's that stayed home survived.
