fun fact: in japan doing things quickly is looked down upon. the quality of work is thought to be directly related to the amount of time spent on it, so at school they don't use grade rankings to motivate the students, they have study time leaderboard instead. in work environments too being efficient is a bad thing, the attitude is "if that's all the time it took you, you can't have done it properly / well." this is the reason for all those incredibly long working hours you see in the news, they're not actually getting much done in all that time, or if they are it's just make-work to make a good impression, writing 5 page reports when what's asked for is half a page to one page, etc.
