Nah don't think he is basking but he does feel obligated to answer questions and try to somehow figure out himself what the hell happened.
I would not be surprised if the autopsy revealed a tumour in the brain.
I can remember the case of a sniper that killed his girlfriend and his mom then got up in a tour and killed a bunch of people not so long ago and he wrote in his diary that they should examine his brain at the autopsy because there might be something wrong. And guess what he was right.
I am 70% certain that if they ever release the autopsy on this guy they will find some sort of tumour or some other unnatural phenomena.

His father was described as a criminal psychopath. Maybe it was in his genes and some kind of traumatic experience triggered it?
Maybe this is a what will trigger his brother's psychopathic genes?
But just doing something like this with the amount of time and planning that went into it, it is very rare that there are no previous signs of what he wanted to do. Unless his wife is one of those "yeah yeah you want to kill a bunch of people but you never will you pussy, now pay me"-bitches.
