No great loss there. I always thought that bump stocks were a stupid thing.

It's the principle of the matter. You can't give the overly emotional gun-grabbers anything. On what basis will we ban them? Are we going to just pass a law that says it's illigal to pull the trigger faster than some arbitrary rate? That's stupid as fuck.
-- Come with us Sir, you're under arrest for possession of a machine-gun.
-- WTF!! This is a semi-auto rifle.
-- WRONG! You just converted it into a machinegun by pulling the trigger faster than allowed by the Government.
Are you fucking kidding me. The sort of shit they're proposing is as stupid as when they banned rifles for having pistol grips and flash hiders. Bump fireing makes a rifle less effective, not more.

Full auto fire is almost always less effective. Unless you're using the rifle as a light machine gun, creating a cone of fire over a dense mass of people where it isn't even worth aiming at individual targets anymore and you need to make as much damage as quickly as possible before that crowd disperses. The difference it makes is even greater if the individual is untrained. This was the case there.
There is a reason why full auto fire is severely restricted in the US. That bump stock is only some cheezy bullshit to exploit a loophole in the law. According to the spirit in which the law was adopted it shouldn't be allowed to be legal. That line was drawn already and it was fine where it was. Whoever wants to experience the expensive thrill of shooting a full auto gun badly enough will jump through the legal and administratrive hoops and there shouldn't be a cheap, readily available alternative around that..

Just let people have whatever guns they want. I could make a bump stock with my minimal machining experience and anyone who wants one can make/get one. Gun control is a joke. A classroom full of little kids were slaughtered and gun nuts promoted everything from it being fake to the normal "It's a people problem" and it was just a minor bump in the road. Gun control will only go even an inch if some psycho got into the Capitol building and machine gunned 20-30 Congressmen or Senators. Other than that, the gun lobby is way too powerful controlling too many politicians with the money and influence they pump into the U.S. government. Just let it go and concentrate on other things. Try to not be where the next psycho goes postal.

I can't think of a single useful purpose for a bump stock. Maybe to fight against the super-intelligent apes post-apocalypse?
