Yeah, some people only focus on the fuck ups.  Of course, it's going to fuck up, A LOT.  But there's really no other way than to keep testing and testing to get it better. I'm sure there's still many situation where it would fuck up and this guy over hyping it, but it's getting there. Theres no question that eventually it will be far better than a human driver, but as with everything, it doesn't happen overnight.

1:15 he says it himself (and this is what I pointed out several times as the danger of autonomous driving systems):

"Maybe it will have a takeover, they are NOT THAT uncommon!"

"Is it perfect? NO!" Still he thinks it is a good idea the car takes him somewhere!

Systems like this will lure people into a false sense of safety (not just tesla, but all that are currently available). IRL the driver WILL NOT pay enough attention (unless you run a simulation like this guy does) to remedy system faults. Hell, people were caught asleep on the wheel using the very first version of it with the aid of an orange!

Also the passing of the first truck was way too quick, any pedestrian emerging behind it would have been hit. Folding in the mirror when passing the UPS truck is unnecessary, waitng a few split seconds to let the oncoming car fully pass and run a wider circle would have been a lot safer.

The car reacted late to the stop sign, I think this is because tesla doesn't have cameras or sensors at driver's eye sight or above (as all fully autonomous vehicles do), no software update can compensate for that.

Around 2:50 he says this (completely flawed) upgrade is sold at 12k$. This is a lot of money for being a beta (if that) tester for them and together with serious false advertising (haven't seen an ad but suspect it is) this would be a scam!

Maybe in some future it won't be until then it is just a dangerous driving aid!

Oh, and it is mid 22, just remind us quickly: when were all model 3's supposed to be private taxi money cows?

agree.

on the stop sign bit, it's also feasible that a sign could be completely obscured or not be present at all for whatever reason. a human can recognize that reality, but a machine can't. it's the same reason we still need pilots even though planes have been able to fly themselves for decades. a faulty fire sensor for example will cause an autopilot plane to crash, but a human pilot can reconize that in reality there is no fire and thus must be faulty readings. a similar sensor problem caused multiple new 787's to crash.

Looks like it works fine during normal conditions on normal streets.  It probably works fine on freeways as well.  I expect accidents before it truly works.  The people paying are paying to test it.  Once it works, it will be just another feature included with future cars.

i look forward to a future where we're all stuck behind self-driving cars at a 4 way all waiting for each other to go.

Or traffic might be a lot smoother.

Absolutely! Take the ego out of the driver and traffic will be much, MUCH smoother!  Selfish driving (and we were/are ALL guilty of that one time or another) is not good for traffic flow and often outright dangerous!

Cyclists will need some kind of brain chip to comply, though.

Tesla "autopilot" opinion of a driving instructor (this is not the 12k beta testing option):

I bet any European city is going to be a real challenge for the autopilot. In the states, roads are more clear cut and logical. A lot of the inner city roads in Europe might have been first made centuries ago and can be squiggly AF.
