To be fair to China, I don't think maglev technology is profitable for any country/company at this time. The companies that employ maglev may be profitable through other means but the maglev tech has yet to be profitable. Now, that's not to say it won't be profitable in the long run but this tech is not for everyone. If it is going to work anywhere, it would be China with it's densely populated mega cities and high number of migrant workers.
