EV vs Petrol Road Trip

How much SLOWER is it? (EV vs Petrol Long Distance Race 2022)

Interesting real world comparison between (my favourite) EV and a similar petrol car.

They were sticking to recommended breaks, and hit hardly any traffic. This pretty much proves that EV's are capable similar to petrol cars these days.

the hyundai is pretty nice. i am convinced (as an ev-driver myself) no one goes back to ice once driving an ev :P.

And batteries get better every year, and more charging stations will pop up, so in a few years it might be the better option without any compromise at all.

I am interested now, never driven one.

I drove the kona, it was really nice, great acceleration but the top speed is limited (way above the speed limit here though)

yeah more stations is going to make all the difference. was a 5 minute wait for the one car already using the charge, but could've easily been that car 15 mins more then another waiting car taking a 20 minute turn before getting your turn.

nice comparison, seems pretty well balanced. i was surprised i thought the electric car would have a tougher time, specially in australia. price point still takes the electric down a couple notches though, smaller car and still 50% more expensive. would lifetime costs make up for that extra $25,000? average drive is still around 10,000 km per year, making fuel costs around the $1,000 per year ball park, so idk, what you think?

Depends on what you do with the car. Here in Spain we get 7000€ for scrapping the old car and petrol prices are1,70€/l, so the petrol version is only 10k€ chaeper. If you do a lot of stop and go city driving the petrol car will be around 9-10l/100km, so that is 1700€/year, we don't pay any road tax on EV's and parking is free in the city, so everyone needs to make their own calculation. I would have another advantage, as I bought a 2nd hand car for the wife last yearfor 3000€, so I would have a net gain of 4000 if I trade it in.... Still for me buying a new EV isn't an option at the moment.
