arial bombs have been around for almost a hundred years but they're new in terms of warfare. what i find interesting is the standardization thats gone into them since day one. if you make a bomb that can only be carried by a specific aicraft. as you retire those aircraft. you're stuck with bombs you can't use. if you design your aicraft to carry the bombs. you can continue to use those same bombs through many generations of aicrafts. so one bomb that was only produced in 1939, were used in ww2, the korean war and the vietnam war. a bomb produced in 1950 was used for the korean war, vietnam war and the gulf war. were kind of on the second gerenation of bombs right now. during the korean war. they redesigned the shape during the korean war because planes were flying faster and carrying them inside but they still have the same mounting specs
