"to break the ski jump and ski flying world records you need a hill bigger than standard competition ski jumps. Olympic medallist and FIS World Cup Champion Ryōyū Kobayashi and his team headed to Akureyri in northern Iceland, and carved a special kicker out of snow on the side of the mountain with the single intention of creating a jump big enough to smash world records"

Why can't they wear wingsuits?
(Spiker)
Dude.........that would be sick!
(Old Spike)
First of all, they all wear as close to a winged suit as allowed, + plus anorexia. The suit he's wearing is, along with the skies, you got a crazy lift similar to a wingsuit.
Look at clips from the '50s.... people wearing a wool sweater and cross-country skies. Heavy-ass grown men... The wind wasn't an issue then :P The jumps were also 3 times shorter *cough*
Now it's anorexic kids in neoprene suits.... no joke eating disorders are rampant. Gotten better over the years, think you need to have a certain BMI to jump now iirc.
We used to do this for fun! Now you have to starve yourself to be competitive,

What are the constrainsts here? Can't you just have them go down a longer slope?
(Old Spike)
When you see other world record jumps, they are all in the bucket as they call it. It's a scary place to land.... so a longer slope is needed. He would overshoot in any standard jump. When jumping conditions are particularly good they lower the plank/seat a meter or 2 so you don't gain to much speed (not an English language-friendly sport) hard to explain certain elements.
An example of someone landing in the bucket, not a lot of room to work with.
Debate is on right now if we want 300m slopes due to the risk involved. If you've ever been up in one of those ski-flying slopes it's scary as fucking fuck. The camera doesn't do it justice at all.... if I had to jump ..... you would see a yellow trail from the start of the slope to wherever my mangled ragdolling corpse would come to a halt.

I've been up near the top of one. Can't even look at the slope...
