i think sony is contractually obligated to produce a fantastic 4 movie every now and then.

i don't get it. sony never had the rights and the article says disney got them from 21st century fox in 2019

Legacy media basically. Just like Doctor Who had to air 1 Dalek episode per season(or 2) or lose the rights to deceased screenwriter Terry Nation's estate. Resulted in some pretty rushed meh-to-bad stories over the years. Those salt and pepper shakers are still not free for use..
