i have to wonder how much of this is true, the story gets more and more amazing. anyway, he's a good storyteller.

Thats a good question. I was checking out the interviewers channel and there is a 3 1/2 hour Interview with this guy. The host was also an inmate and he has a neat Q&A playlist about Prison experiences.
Out of this one, the stuff he dropped was that apparently he did some time in Vietnam. Whether that was the brig or POW is unspecified. He also mentioned he ran with a smaller MC in California. But I don't think he had badges, since he insisted on being Independant.
