these guys are being quite conservative in their criticisms.
the situation is not unlike China's social media censorship where the private companies have govt request for censorship, which trains them what's acceptable, then the private companies err on the side of caution because it just makes business sense, which is one of the main things that frustrates people because they get caught up in the trigger-happy ban system..... but the US goes above & beyond what China does by running their own disinfo operations aimed at foreign & domestic audiences, often in support of imperialism - something China doesn't have in common with the US. Something China does that US doesn't is directly banning any significant political organizing against the government. The USG does this by stealth & that convo's a can of worms. Both systems somewhat converge when it comes to social media censorship.
