kind of a tangent story. was talking to a guy who manages apartments about smoke detectors, how he has to check them every year, replace them when needed. not having to ever replace one before, i asked him how often he has to replace them, he says often because people just don't take the battery out but remove them completely and then for whatever reason, lose it. wondering how much they cost, he says that it depends. new constructions or gut jobs, require smoke detectors with strobe lights. the older ones are about 30$, ones with strobe lights are 150$. then a week later i run into a buddy who's a fireman. i ask him about the the smoke detector thing and he says the strobe lights are great for getting people out, because by code, they have to put them outside bedroom and all the way leading to an exit. on the other hand they're the worst because they blind fireman
