3-27 is always a dark then good day remembering a cousin (I never knew him obviously) who was very big in my family being killed 3-27-67 in Vietnam. The song is actually from 1970 during the winding down of U.S. involvement (Vietnam is among the biggest tragedies all the way around in U.S. history) but Creedence fits Vietnam to me.
I will never forget what he told people when he came back on a leave to people and they all told me. He said "There are thousands of tragedies every year in the U.S. There are thousands every day over there." My uncle who was in Vietnam said that helicopter assaults were moments of terror followed by carnage if the LZ was "Hot". Happy my generation came way after that shitstorm.
