Tribute to Rocket Norton July 18 1950 - April 5 2024

Drummer, songwriter, singer, guitarist, writer Rocket Norton passed on April 5, 2024. This video is some clips and photos from some of the concerts I had the privilege of attending, along with some scenes from Rocket's 65th birthday in 2015. My cameras (Nikon Coolpix and an IPad) didn't record the sound perfectly; it was even better live. Rocket's 65th birthday included several musical performers who took turns playing anything they felt like, including the late Sibel Thresher singing a heartfelt "Happy Birthday." Some of the scenes are from a Prism / Jet / Seeds of Time / Sunshyne Reunion Concert. A review of the concert is posted here: http://www.neo-opsis.ca/PrismReunion.htm A review of The Authentic's March 18, 2016 concert is available at: http://www.neo-opsis.ca/reviews/TheAuthentics.htm After a diagnosis with cancer, Rocket organized 2 "Fuck Cancer" charity benefit concerts. The 2022 concert was held at the Hard Rock Casino in Coquitlam (in Greater Vancouver), BC. October 1, 2022. Performing groups included Loverboy, Chilliwack, Powder Blues Band, Lee Aaron, Trooper, Streehart, Nick Gilder, The Headpins, Ray Ayotte, Prism, and The Authentics. Performers included Rocket Norton, Ab Bryant, John Hall, Darcy Deutch, Al Harlow, Tom Lavin, Ray Ayotte, Bernie Aubin, Jeff Niel, Nick Glider, Mike Reno, Paul Dean, Bill Henderson, et al. The concert raised over 340,000 for for the BC Cancer Foundation. The 2023 benefit concert was the result of the efforts of a huge number of people. Executive Producer / Creative Director: Rocket Norton. Producers: Bruce Allen, Bill Allman, and Alex Blodgett. Special Promotions Producer: Ali Ledgerwood. Head Sound: Jamez Goodon. Lighting Design: Brad Trenaman, Production and Stage Management: Mike Price and Giselle Clarke-Trenaman. Marketing, Branding, and Design: Rob Glennie. Photography: Quinn Bender. For the Centre for the Performing Arts: Rex Chequer. Additional promotion: Greg Dixon. The concert was supported by Wheaton Precious Metals and Beedie IRL, Rufus Guitars, Shared Visions Unlimited Multimedia Productions, Ali Cat Productions, News and Reviews: Cancer Benefit Concert Laura Ballance Media Group, Rob Gleenie Consulting, Quinn Bender Photography, Rock 101 and Global News. In addition to the performers and organizers and supporters, I should also note that the stagehands did an amazing job of rapidly switching up equipment for the various bands. The 2023 benefit concert featured members of Al Harlow, Chilliwack, Colin James, Doug & the Slugs, Headpins, H.U.N.N., Jeff Neill, Jim Byrnes, Lee Aaron, Loverboy, Powder Blues, PRISM, Trooper Hot Shots (3 original Trooper members with 2 members of Stonebolt). The concert raised more than $300,000 for PROFYLE (Precision Oncology for Young People). A review of the 2023 benefit concert is in issue 35 of Neo-opsis Science Fiction Magazine: Al Harlow wrote a moving memorial to Rocket Norton here: https://prism.ca/rocket-norton/ Al and Rocket played together since 1967 in multiple bands, including Prism, Seeds of Time, and The Authentics.
