Neocons have roots in Israel's right wing Likud party (led by Netanyahu). Their policies serve what they see as Israel's national interest.

The 'apparatus of lies' that led the US into war in the Middle East after 9/11 was orchestrated completely by Neocons, in particularly the Wolfowitz/Feith combo in the Pentagon in a new wing called "The Office For Special Plans". Their friends in the media like Judith Miller were also instrumental in swaying public opinion but at the top level it was all Neocon all day.
