yeah it's just so ..... fantastical and implausible. Worst thing, think it was a few episodes into season one he challenged "the best MMA" fighter as a cop, in a ring and won. Then there is the cringly amish "boss" bulltshit martial arts.

It's hard to follow the first season. It gets much better S2 onward. Since you won't likely go through it. It's revealed later that he was an infiltration specialist for a black ops group financed and trained by the CIA.
I do agree that in short the show is an excuses to have as many awesome fight scenes shoved in as possible, but I enjoyed the overall story, acting was good for nobodies, and dialogue was emotionally well written and executed.
More than I expected, considering I just showed up for the fights.

I haven't seen better as far as quality and realism of fight scenes, aside from maybe Punisher.

Punisher both ecompassing realism and the fantastical.... not realism?! ..... It feels real, but it's anything but. A fighter against a fighter you know exactly what i mean..... it's 90% of the time sniffing your opponent!
Punisher is fantastical and unrealistic, but is apart of series older than both me and you. Banchee however.....just shit and completely impossible in every regard.

Didn't find it "hard to follow" but rather hard to watch. "Awesome fight scenes"? meh
I agree with n0va on the fighting and plausibility.
