black pilots

This is hilarious,he wants someone to "look the part" so he feels safe?

Now I am BY NO MEANS an advocate for gender or ethnic quotas, however:

At least here in Europe becoming a pilot is a bit for the privileged as the training is expensive and the trainee in general has to pay for it (at least it was 35 years ago when I wanted to become an airline pilot) and there was NO GUARANTEE you would pass, there are certain (educational and physical) requirements to be met BEFORE they even accept you as a trainee, there are student loans available (usually funded by the airline) which will have to be repaid regardless of success.

The MINIMUM requirements to become a pilot are set by the relevant authorities, NOT by the airlines! Airlines' standards may be higher but not lower. 

So generally I have NO PROBLEM if airlines promote and aid applicants that are female and/or of colour as long as the STANDARDS remain the same!

I would be surprised (and share the concern of the guy) if the standards are different for women and people of colour or the relevant authority wants to implement that! However I find this HIGHLY doubtful.

So, unless all I stated above has changed*, I think the guy and the lady presenter are simply ignorant. Which says a lot about the quality of journalism these days.

*BTW in Germany female beat cops have lower physical requirements than their male counterparts! THIS would be a concern to me!
