No one can fix this in one movie, they should just drop this duology and move on to something new, I couldn't care less about the fate of the remaining cast (Lukes dead, Solos dead, Carrie died). The "New" cast are one dimensional boring characters that have not grown over the two films.

The only decent Abrams movie was Armageddon - a sexy, cheesey schlockfest with Bruce Willis & Liv Tyler in their prime.

I thought it was going to be a sequel type of sequel, but intead we got a weird remake with cameos of the original characters. Last Jedi even contradicted Force Awakens. I'm not a writer so I don't see how they could fix it. But I'm sure there are talented people who may be able to do it. One guess I have is they'll finally go off and do something new instead of doing a remake of Return of the Jedi, to get away from the plot holes and problems in the 1st 2. But then it'll feel like a standalone film, just weird hanging out there by itself.
