I was ready to give up completely on this Trek iteration, but Captain Pike - or more accurately the actor's portrayal - has me hooked this season. I like this character, and want to see where this goes. Anyone else feel the same way?

What about Robert April ? There is almost nothing known about him so you can build a new charactor and story out of it.

I will only respond if you convert your one-star rating of Owen's Tommy Robinson song to a two-star rating. Is it worth it to you?

Fair enough - I suck at math so I'll assume you gave it two stars. Seems about right. I just read about Captain Robert April. I remember hearing the name in a chronology of the Enterprise captains. The details of his missions as Captain of the Enterprise are sparse. He is detailed in an episode of the animated series, which was originally considered to be non-canon. However, that changed in 2007 when the official Star Trek website acknowledged Robert April as the first captain of the Enterprise as canon, followed by Pike. The advantage of doing a series based on April is that the field would be wide open because there is little other information about what he did as captain, what the missions were, etc. So they could freely construct a five-year series out of this guy as he shakes down the Enterprise and tests out this advanced prototype flag ship - it's a good idea. There's lots to work with but also a lot of freedom to be creative.

Where this goes?....poor guy.

I don't think so - maybe. This is a time travel plot, which means the possibility of introducing alternate timelines. Even in the Kelvin timeline Pike gets killed relatively young.

I'm inclined to agree. A couple of episodes ago, they totally spoiled the fact that Burnham is the Red Angel, by doing a cut from the RA to her, standing conveniently behind her duffel bag. The waist:hip ratio between the 2 ladies is virtually identical. Burnham time-hopping and going back and preventing the attack at the Vulcan academy that orphaned her in the first place, would explain why Spock never referenced his sister in the original series.

stop watching it..people like you will make them think its ok to feed us this tripe and label it as star trek..

Anson Mount's Pike is really good, though. He and Mystique Romaine could easily carry their own series. Instead, looks like we will be getting a post-Enterprise Picard..... yuuuuuuuuuuck.
