I needed a walk so I checked the ice skateability. Saw a heap of stuff that might, maybe be a beaver lodge. I'm hoping someone who knows more about it can tell if that's what it is. Panama Flats, Saanich (Victoria), Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

Hey Karl. If you saw felled trees and wood chips on the ground then it could be beaver, an immature one having their first go. But beaver lodges are wider. When it looks like more of a discreet clump as is the case here, 7-8ft across and 6ft or less high, odds are it's beaver's smaller cousin, the muskrat. Cheers.
