The trouble with people like Sheldrake is that they have an ass instead of a brain.

Science is indeed a belief system and because the current evidence points to a mechanistic reality at some level therefore it's sensible to believe the world is mechanistic up to a point. *eyeroll*  It's easy to spout bullshit. Unfortunately we adults know that evidence isn't a matter of belief.

I mean who came up with the dualistic matter/spirit divide? A religious scientist. Who gave up the mumbojumbo? Materialist scientsts. Who are now pushing the notion that all life seems to have some consiousness and life seems to be much more complex than we believed it to be? The materialists. Who are saying that humans are special creatures? The spiritualists, the religious, the ones with no actual evidence.

Recent medical discoveries have pointed to two distinct areas in our brain responsible for consiousness. One part lizard brain for 'being awake' and one part white matter for the 'me'. I'd paste links but I'm sure we're all informed on the latest discoveries regarding actual consiousness research so I'd just be preaching to the choir right? Plus, I'm lazy.

The notion of miracles, Gods, angels and such being only the products of our minds is unfortunately quite proovable. There's no evidence of any such thing in nature without man.  That deGrasse quote is pretty good at this point to paraphrase; 'Grind down all the books of science and religion and then try to reconstruct the information contained in those books. You will rediscover the same science books but you will not rediscover the same religions.' This is true of course only to the point where the formation of cultural collectives do not follow natural laws but the opinions of sociopaths and psychopaths. That random element that makes religion into the horror that it is and which science has grown to rigorously guard against(within their means).
