18:56 - Brown says it's a .38 Special rifle.

21:37 - .38 Special case is ejected

21:38 - 9mm case shown hitting the ground

----
You cannot simply "activate marksman mode" in someone.  And give me break, calling someone a "marksman" who can hit a target that close with a rifle is just silly.  Then again this is the UK we're talking about and having been entirely disarmed I'm sure someone even getting rounds on paper with a REAL weapon feels like a "marksman".
----
22:38 - OK, at this point he's shooting an air-soft replica.  There is literally NO recoil, the fucking slide doesn't even cycle and you can see the compressed gas condensing as it exits the muzzle.

23:18 - This clip is him firing an REAL firearm.  Why the bait and switch?

23:21 - The same 9mm case shown hitting the ground is played, this time it actually makes sense.

23:24 - Now we're back to the air-soft replica.  The diameter of the barrel is not that of a real pistol.

23:54 - Are you fucking kidding me now, a squirt gun?  Now we're just going full on bullshit mode.

----
36:04 - The pinnacle of horseshit right there.  This guy is sitting in a balcony, at least 50 yards from Stephen Fry.  Now obviously the gun is firing blanks and the squips were set to pop no matter what.  But the idea that someone who is able to hit a target 10 feet away using an air-soft pistol is going to hit a man sized target 50 yards away, with a real pistol with ZERO actual experience is beyond absurd.  Why?  Because the sight radius is so short even small deviations in aim are going to be magnified to the point of missing the target that far away and new shooters, with no knowledge of trigger control, are going to induce enough deviation pulling a 5lb trigger to miss.

----
But this is a UK show airing in the UK.  They haven't grown up around weapons and cannot be blamed for not knowing when they're been fed a trailer load of lies.
----
To your question, how much of shown is legit?  None of it.  It's all fakery and scripted garbage.  You cannot hypnotize someone into magically having a skill they've never had before.  Never mind the fact that during the clip they show of him hitting a rather close in target very well he was firing a CO2 air-soft gun that shoots little plastic BBs.

I could have, sure.  But it's a joy to critique something this monumentally fake.

do you think any of that is relevant to the goal of the show though? i know its important to you to get the casings and such correct and you understand weaponry better than most british people but i dont think its an important part of the shows goal itself. The show might be total horse shite but i dont think the fact that hes using an airsoft gun takes away from the overall outcome because the weapon used is not really important..its what he made the guy do with it thats important..

You are spot on. The reply is from a gun afficionado or anorak and has nothing to do with what the show is about.

Like many of his shows it is a nice watch. Whether or not it is (completely) real or legit I don't know. However hypnosis can actually make people, that are vulnerale to it, do "silly" things. It may even be possible that a novice can shoot better under hypnosis.

Fullautos "critique" above, however, is totally beside the point. Of course the footage is edited. Watching this with a trained eye is like an engineer watching the "racing" in fast and furious. This is marketed to an audience that has no experience and probably no interest in weapons. Shooting (pardon the pun) the gun training probably took hours, they just used the best footage. Most likely the shell hitting the ground is from archived material anyway. The producers did not hide the fact that they used different guns, the shells could even be seen when he first shot the handgun.

This is all for show and has little or nothing to do with what they tried to prove.

Is it possible, though? I don't know.
