Maybe their methodology is wrong when they extrapolate the spread, but they have a decent sample size for the death rate, which are in line with the flu or even lower.

The death rate was estimated in february to be 1% or a little lower, this has not changed since then.

I had to rewatch some parts again.
He states recovery rates multiple times. NY was around 93%, Spain 90%.
He keeps saying it's like the flu, but If 10 out of a 100 drop-dead it's nothing like the flu.
Am I missing something here?

a few things:
The number of infected is by a factor of magnitude higher than those reported (in most countries), this is due to lack of testing. You can calculate the number of infected "backwards" by assuming say a 2% death rate.
The measures were not put into place because of the high death rate but due to the enormous speed of dsitribution. And thus the number of infected and thus the ACTUAL number of deaths within a short period of time. In countries like the UK and the US this exaggerated spread could have been prevented simply by looking at the mistakes made in spain and Italy who were hit first and literally acted as a guinea pig and acting accordingly, like Korea and Australia for example. So putting quarantine measures in place is not only for those that have the virus but also for those that cannot get other treatment due to the hospitals being overwhelmed.
And for the conspiracy theorists: if even trump and boris put measures in place we can be pretty damn certain that it is more serious than many may think.

I hope it was something along the lines of "there's no one-fit solution" for the globe. Italy got fucked because it's Italy, and it would be worthwhile to deeply study just what it was about Italy that had them so badly fucked. And Spain. What is it about Sweden that made their approach ideal (you probably know more about it than me if you've looked into it). But there is an element pushing for a post-9/11-style "new normal" and we are even less equipped now as a society than we were in 2001 to combat it.

The CEO of YouTube has made a blanket rule that anyone without enougn scratch to sue them who says anything counter to the WHO will be removed.

The response we had in North america is based on the numbers China gave which were around a 10% death rate.
Then Italy got cought with its pants down and their healthcare system got overwelmed.
So it's normal to have a strong response to this new virus.
