It never seemed likely that Bethesda was capable of handling an online Fallout game, and the dreadful mess that is Fallout 76 only validates one's cynicism. Which is fine, because Fallout 76 is, itself, a cynical game. A cynical game that barely works. Lifeless, archaic, and featuring a totally mangled VATS system, this desperate trip on the Live Services bandwagon is an utter waste of time.

i wanted a thorough review but this guy is just assuming and bitching, as evidenced by "in the first few hours i expected to get to something." he's barely played it and thinks it's crap because he'd decided it was before even starting.
i watched a couple other early impressions from people who were 20+ hours in and while they all complained the early stuff was slow and unskippable, they had generally positive first impressions.

Well, it currently has a metascore of 46, so even if you don't wanna take this guy's word for it, it still isn't doing so great.
