I think the shooter didn't have enough movement cues in the backside version to pull the trigger in time. In other words I wonder how clearly the dodger telegraphed his actions to the shooter.

I guess most of the time the aggressor is not really prepared to pull the trigger anyway, the opposite may (and should) be true for the guy holding the gun being a cop.
Shit scifi style presentation, though.

wonder if the attempt at disarming causes the trigger to get pulled in some cases? and then maybe there are preferable deflections to reduce the chance of it getting pulled, pushing the gun back in the direction of the shooter as well as up, maybe.
