bjork seems to try too hard to be weird for being weird's sake for me, and i don't really like her music, but at the same time i'm really impressed because even though it's not my taste it's clearly genius. i get why it's called hyperballad, it's a ballad yet it isn't at all, and it's so refreshing to hear some real art in music for a change, despite not actually liking the song itself.

What's interesting is that this song is from 1996, from her album Post.  There have been bands that have done progressive stuff since then for sure, but it's slowed down to a trickle.  The most exciting bands of recent years are Ghost, which are rehashing goth-glam, and Radiohead, who have been pushing the envelope for decades now. 

If you have a chance I recommend checking out the Post album byBjork...it is quite a varied album:
