Defector testimonies are generally not reliable but this defector-activist-celebrity is straight up full of shit. She never ate grass or bugs & her entire narrative is reminiscent of the babies in incubators story

i dunno, that article really seems to be grasping at straws. what does it matter whether her mother was taken for watching a james bond movie or a south korean one? also even if she wasn't personally reduced to eating bugs, that really has no bearing on the situation in north korea at all, where most people really were reduced to eating bugs. that fact is well documented, since there was a severe shortage of protein, so bad that europe was trying to breed super-size rabbits to send to north korea to help the humanitarian crisis. again with her father's death - ok so she's not been consistent on what happened after his death, but again that has no bearing on what the important facts are, how, where and why he died, and really after going through all of that and hearing other stories and being a kid at the time and going through translators, it'd be a bit weird if there wasn't any inconsistencies in minor details.
on the china uncensored comments, theirs and pretty much all channels that report on china have been experiencing paid propagandists trying to talk over anything that paints china in anything but a completely positive light. have a look and you can see which ones they are because the english is a little bit off and they never have anything substantive to say. they never argue any of the points, and instead just say things like "this is just anti-china hate speech", "they are china haters", "china is a great place it's a shame you can't see that", etc, without anything related to anything actually said in the video. they seem to be deleting comments that are from pretty obvious bot accounts but still there are plenty of similar comments left.

2 of my comments that were deleted on this video were just short ones about how this woman is full of shit, so they were relevant. One linked to that aticle on the diplomat site. Another comment I made just said how China Uncensored is like Fox News so I guess that falls into your category of taking the piss out of the channel.
The inconsistencies are not minor. One of stories she's told is about a woman who was publically executed in a stadium in the city for watching a banned DVD in about 2002. This is absolute nonsense. Public executions ended in about 1999 & were done on the outskirts of town & were only for high crimes like murder.
Her stories about eating bugs might seem minor but that's just the start of it. She makes out like she was homeless when her father went to prison but in fact she went & stayed with family in another district. She made up a complete lie about being homeless & having to eat grass with her sister but they were being taken care of by her relatives.
Another of her stories is how they escaped NK. She says she had to traverse 2 mountains with holes in her shoes but in fact her home was right at the border and she simply crossed the border & hopped into a car that was waiting for her.
Another story is how she was forced to strip naked in a Mongoian refugee center every day for over a month. This is absurd according to everyone else who's been in that same facility.
There are many holes in her stories, pretty much everything that can be proven false has been. She lives in South Korea working for a libertarian think tank & has a book out so she does these tours & interviews to promote horrors of NK to an unsuspecting audience. She's also a celebrity in SK on a TV show that takes the piss out of the Kim family.
She's making money spreading lies & hurting the cause of the rest of the defectors who are honest. It causes prejudice against NK when there's more than enough of that already.
