One thing you do not do is fuck with a bear. A female bear with cubs is especially dangerous. If I was this guy, I would piss my pants. Mother bear following you down a trail is scary as hell.

Shit I don't think so. I have taken pics of bears in the bush and thought 'wow I'm going to blow my friends' minds with how close this is' and you just see a brown/black blob in the distance. This was close. I'm genuinely impressed with how calm he is. With a mama griz and two cubs. So scary.

Thats a shitty situation. The cubs were just curious, but if they caught up with him, mother bear would have ripped him apart.

It's unlikely that the bears would damage the camera and would probably just rip him apart instead so filming it was the right move.

What would be the smartest thing to do here? I mean obviously running might make it worse, playing dead well...yea that aint going to happen, I think id go off the path and hope they just continue on the road, perhaps climb a tree and yes im aware they can climb too. But walking backwards like that idk that didnt feel right and like the smart thing to do here either.

Walking backwards to gain distance is smart. When that mama bear turned around and looked behind her is the time to fucking book it. He was going around a corner at that point and could have been out of sight. I say this as someone who always carries a firearm in the woods tho... heh.

Umm. Fucking run? People who say "don't run" don't know what the fuck they are talking about. A mother bear won't chase you and leave her young behind. But what the hell do I know. I never lived in the bush in bear country for months at a time. :D
