New Dave Chappelle

I saw Dave with a group of friends live in Norway late February when Covid was basically a rumor. We knew it was spreading globally, even in Oslo, where his show took place, and most of the then current cases had occured in our country.

I found it mostly funny, very provocative, thoughtful and even uncomfortable at times. It was great.

There was even a female heckler who yelled out "say something new!" in the middle of his set, which was so loud and not Norwegian-sounding which made us later speculate that it may have been staged. I was too intoxicated at the time for me to now recall exactly which jokes that may have triggered her heckle, as there were plenty of jokes and observations that frankly many would find offensive. But he owned that bitch.

I remember everything from standing in line outside in the snowstorm, to desperately trying to light a cigarette on our way back in the still ongoing, knee-height-snow storm, while not giving a fuck because the show was perfect even in its imperfections. Even Mos Def came out after the show and rapped while Dave was taking selfies on stage with the other, also very talented comics who were on before him.

It was definitely one of the last big shows in Norway before everything went to shit.

But I will definitely remember the entire night for a very long time.
