Was the whole northern Ukraine thing a trap so they can swoop in and snatch Crimea? Wasn't that what they wanted in the first place?

Crimea was reunified with Russia in 2014 after the US orchestrated a coup in Ukraine & installed an anti-Russia government which Crimean people rejected. Crimean people never wanted to be part of Ukraine but accepted a deal in the 1990s to stay within the newly independent country as a semi-autonomous region.
