Smoking is Awesome

Until it isn't.  The lucky stopped early.  The smartest never did it.

That smoking helps to focus at work is a red herring, as this is only true for smokers, not for anyone else, because smoking gets the focus level from "below normal" up to normal, NOT from normal to "above normal".

I smoked 40+ a day but fortunately was able to quit some 25 years ago. It was very hard but residing in the UK at the time helped as there already were lots of smoke free zones, especially no smoking in the workplace.

Could be some of that but it is a stimulant so it's not a reach that it could make you focus or work harder. Guess depends on the person. Same could be said about coffee. Remember hearing that the work pace totally changed after coffee was introduced to Europe.

I've been off of cigarettes for about 10 years now. Vaped for about 5 years after that, then switched to snus (big here in nordic countries) then nicotine pouches (basically the same as snus but with out the tobacco) now I've promissed my self that when I've used the last ones I'm not getting any more.   It's hard after 25  years of addiction.

First and foremost: Good on you that you quit! Keep it up, it remains hard for a while!

For me there are 2 parts to getting rid of this addiction:
1. The habit
2. The substance addiction

When I quit (fortunately) there was no vaping so I used nicotine gum so I at least had something to do when the urge overcame me.Later I used normal gum and then nothing.

With regards to the "focusing": of course everyone reacts differently but smokers are addicts, thus in general will be less focused without their fix and return to normal after it. This may be different for people like a friend of mine who is a "casual smoker" and only has one every now and then (a thing I would NEVER risk doing).

I'm in a good position to quit. Been using low nic pouches for some time now, so the physical addiction shouldn't be that bad. Now that I have only a few cases left I'm kinda forced to ration and try get get by with less and less :)
