dunno if it should be everybody's first choice, but it's kind of win-win. if they get so upset that they want to prove you wrong so much that they still remember it 20 years later then you've motivated them to succeed. if not, well then you were right about what you said.

Teacher missed the mark with his warning. Education is a worthwhile luxury because it exercises the brain during formative years, when learning is easier, allowing you to properly use and furnish it for the rest of your life. A line that stuck with me from one of those JP vids was 'Are you as educated as you are intelligent?' The ability for profound thought can be a recipe for misery, and for all I know this guy is a genius, but like a lot of people he passed up an opportunity (tax payer funded schooling) that wouldn't have precluded him for succeeding in the trades.
I'm a tradesman. In my trade, in the city, there's a guy everybody knows and likes. Actually looks like the guy in the vid. Everyone has a story about him, everyone likes him, even the ones who've had punch ups with him. One of the best at what we do, easily top 3 of guys I've known in my career. A hard partying guy, one of those guys who coasts along great until he has a little chemical fall down, not unusual. Super funny, very quick with the wit and charming with the ladies. But a raging narcisisst. I'm a reader in my free time, and things come up in conversation to pass the time in the work truck, and the topic turned to school. No surprise at all he told me he had no time for school because it was boring and the gist of it was he was too smart, wasn't challenged, so he dropped out. I asked him, hypotheotically , if he went to the gym and everyone was lifting 50lbs but he needed 100lbs to make gains, would he say the gym is stupid or just lift heavier weights? He didn't like that.
