people always misunderstand about those who think the military budget should be reined in. it's not that we think the military should get less stuff, we just realize that they're only getting a quarter at best of value out of the money poured in. companies used to have to build prototypes on their own wallet and compete against others in order to win contracts, but now billions are handed out yearly to single companies to develop systems, they don't even have to pay for their own r&d anymore let alone compete. what the us gets it return in aircraft carriers that can't launch any aircraft because the launch system doesn't work, and the aircraft themselves are still full of glitches. that's pushing $2 trillon spent for no return whatsoever, that all could've bee avoided if the government wasn't handing out public money until prototype were completed and proven like they used to.
we could get exactly the same nuclear revamp for less than half the price.

Imagine what humankind could accomplish if suddenly we could just end world violence. All the time, effort and money gone into it just put into better use like new sex toys and such.
